A History in Online Learning

We offer a solid foundation of conceptual development and work products. Past and current online learning activities are:

1999

TDG worked in collaboration to produce the first software-based interactive problem-based case study (PBCS) in troubleshooting HVAC systems. This Energy Trainer multimedia CD was comprised of 4 modules, totaling at least 4 hours of content. It was produced with Federal funding and has been commercially successful.

2000 - 2001

Using internal funding, TDG developed an online version of all 4 Energy Trainer modules of the 1999 multimedia CD. This entire online HVAC piece, and especially the PBCS portion, serve as excellent examples of distance learning in the HVAC subject domain.

This online learning tool has been available,  free-of-charge, since 2001 at www.EcoAdvisor.com. In order to access the interactive PBCS exercise portion of this product, first download a free trial of the Authorware player from Macromedia. http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

2003

TDG expanded its approach to online education through software development under a partnership with Laney College (Peralta Community College District) and drawing from National Science Foundation (NSF) funding.

2000 - today

TDG continually develops interactive distance-learning modules that address balancing energy efficiency and quality in (1) lighting and (2) daylighting in buildings. This work is funded from Federal and private sources.

The interactivities on the distance-learning portion of the www.EcoAdvisor.com website are supported by over 10,000 computer-generated images of lighting and daylighting in typical spaces. Each image was generated by TDG to demonstrate quality issues.

2004 - today

TDG's partnership with Peralta Community College District and the National Science Foundation grant partners has enabled us to produce both on-site and online versions of the PBCS. Content related to PBCS is continually under development.
